I’m sharing a very special recipe with you today for a very special day…it is TheBetterHalf’s 30th Birthday! He’s finally as old as I am, at least for the next 6 months. He was complaining the other day about getting old. I told him he would get no sympathy from me! Welcome to 30 – it isn’t so bad!

I love celebrating birthdays on the blog – it is nice to have an excuse to make a decadent birthday treat (not that I need an excuse to bake…). Growing up, Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake was one of TheBetterHalf’s favorite desserts, so I got the recipe from his mom to make for his birthday. I was nervous to bake a family favorite, because I didn’t want to mess it up! Luckily, he said this chocolate sheet cake was just as good as he remembered it.

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes

Ricotta and whipped eggwhites make these lemon ricotta pancakes the lightest and fluffiest pancakes I have ever eaten! Perfect for weekend breakfasts!

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes | chezcateylou.com

Sunday morning = pancake time. Growing up, my dad made us a big breakfast almost every Sunday.  It was the best. Well, it still is the best because he still cooks breakfast any time I am home in St. Louis. Tons of bacon. Fresh squeezed orange juice. Fried eggs if you want them (cooked in bacon fat and served on rye toast. that is worthy of its own blog post). And of course, my favorite, pancakes.

I still crave pancakes pretty much every weekend. And while I will always love good old fashioned plain pancakes, I love trying out new varieties. Like these lemon ricotta pancakes.

Chocolate Donuts with Strawberry Cream Cheese Icing | chezcateylou.com

They were Champagne, Strawberries, Oranges, Beets, Filet Mignon, Lobster, Cream, Chocolate, Rosewater, and Rice.  Since champagne, lobster, and filet mignon aren’t in my usual cooking repertoire, I’m not really sure what rosewater is, and I am not a fan of beets, I decided to go with what I know and love – chocolate and strawberries! It doesn’t get much better than that.  Especially when combined in a baked donut – chocolate donuts with strawberry cream cheese icing to be exact!
