Istanbul, Turkey (part 1)

An overview of some of the sights and restaurants in the amazing city of Istanbul, Turkey and a closer look at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet.

Istanbul, Turkey | chezcateylou.com In February, Cate and I spent four nights in Istanbul, Turkey. Istanbul is a truly transcontinental city as it falls right on the Asia/Europe border. To get a better appreciation of this gigantic city of almost 14 million people, we spent a few nights in both the historic old city (Sultanahmet) and a few in the newer side near the Bosphorus strait. In honor of this split city, we’ll split our recap into two posts: today a recap of the Four Seasons Sultanahmet, the Spice Market and the Grand Bazaar, Mikla Restaurant, and a look at some of the best sandwiches in Istanbul.  …

RedFarm – NYC

RedFarm on Hudson Street in New York City is a modern Chinese restaurant in a rustic yet hip setting.  Delicious food and fun vibe.

RedFarm NYC | chezcateylou.com

So far on Friday Dinner Series we’ve covered a few of our favorite Asian spots in New York City: the James Beard nominated Uncle Boons (ahem, we discovered it first, Mr. Beard), Ippudo, Momofuku Noodle Bar, and Momofuku Ssam Bar. But what about Chinese? With the recent rise in popularity of more exotic Asian cuisines –  ramen, Thai, Vietnamese, and of course sushi – Chinese food is often forgotten.  I mean, there’s nothing trendy or different about Chinese food, right? You’ve got your General Tso’s, some egg rolls, a heaping helping of MSG, and if you’re feeling crazy, extra packets of duck sauce. But RedFarm has changed all of that and made Chinese food cool again thanks to incredible flavors and awesome twists on traditional dishes.

Uncle Boons – NYC

Uncle Boons has some of the best Thai food in all of New York City – everything is incredible and so flavorful. It is one of our all time favorite restaurants!

Uncle Boons NYC | chezcateylou.com

I have a lot of favorite restaurants in New York.  I usually qualify those statements to some degree; Sfoglia is my favorite neighborhood restaurant, Gramercy Tavern is my favorite restaurant to spend an afternoon, Mission Chinese is my favorite restaurant that inexplicably was shut down by the health department, and so on. But if I had to eat one meal in New York City right now, I’d go to Uncle Boons. So I guess that makes Uncle Boons my favorite favorite restaurant (at least for the time being).  So what is it about this Thai restaurant that makes it so special?…

It is day two of Chez CateyLou’s 1st birthday celebration! Yesterday we had a delicious chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Today, we are returning to where it all began – ChezCateyLou’s very first post on the delicious squash toast at ABC Kitchen here in NYC.  And now, one year later, I am sharing the recipe with you so that you can make this amazing toast at home!  ABC Kitchen’s squash toast is my absolute favorite dish that I’ve had at any restaurant, ever.  I’m literally obsessed and crave it weekly – it is kind of strange. Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting | chezcateylou.com

Happy Birthday to Chez CateyLou! Our little blog is one year old today. I actually can’t believe it has been an entire year!! Time really flies. I have learned so much this past year – about photography, cooking, food styling, blogging, social media – the list goes on and on! A year ago I wasn’t even on Pinterest – now, it is our number one source of traffic to the blog. I didn’t even know what DSLR meant (ok I can’t lie – I just had to google what DSLR actually stands for) and now my fancy camera is one of my favorite possessions. I even named it, or her to be exact. Her name is Cécile – my French camera for my French blog name – and she has become a member of the family (and now you all know how weird I really am)!

But thank you for sticking with me and reading all of my posts. You, my dear readers, are the reason that this little blog is around and that I continue to work so hard at it each and every day. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And now it is time for cake. With peanut butter buttercream frosting.  Oh yes.
