RedFarm on Hudson Street in New York City is a modern Chinese restaurant in a rustic yet hip setting.  Delicious food and fun vibe.

So far on Friday Dinner Series we’ve covered a few of our favorite Asian spots in New York City: the James Beard nominated Uncle Boons (ahem, we discovered it first, Mr. Beard), Ippudo, Momofuku Noodle Bar, and Momofuku Ssam Bar. But what about Chinese? With the recent rise in popularity of more exotic Asian cuisines –  ramen, Thai, Vietnamese, and of course sushi – Chinese food is often forgotten.  I mean, there’s nothing trendy or different about Chinese food, right? You’ve got your General Tso’s, some egg rolls, a heaping helping of MSG, and if you’re feeling crazy, extra packets of duck sauce. But RedFarm has changed all of that and made Chinese food cool again thanks to incredible flavors and awesome twists on traditional dishes.

Uncle Boons – NYC

Uncle Boons has some of the best Thai food in all of New York City – everything is incredible and so flavorful. It is one of our all time favorite restaurants!

Uncle Boons NYC | chezcateylou.com

I have a lot of favorite restaurants in New York.  I usually qualify those statements to some degree; Sfoglia is my favorite neighborhood restaurant, Gramercy Tavern is my favorite restaurant to spend an afternoon, Mission Chinese is my favorite restaurant that inexplicably was shut down by the health department, and so on. But if I had to eat one meal in New York City right now, I’d go to Uncle Boons. It is day two of Chez CateyLou’s 1st birthday celebration! Yesterday we had a delicious chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Today, we are returning to where it all began – ChezCateyLou’s very first post on the delicious squash toast at ABC Kitchen here in NYC.  And now, one year later, I am sharing the recipe with you so that you can make this amazing toast at home!  ABC Kitchen’s squash toast is my absolute favorite dish that I’ve had at any restaurant, ever.  I’m literally obsessed and crave it weekly – it is kind of strange. We have been to ABC Kitchen several times this winter just to sit at the bar and eat squash toast.

Minetta Tavern – Friday Dinner Series

Minetta Tavern in New York City is a great spot to have a celebratory dinner, sit for a drink at the bar, or grab one of the best burgers in the city.

Minetta Tavern NYC | chezcateylou.com

Another Friday, another look at one of our favorite restaurants in New York.   Minetta Tavern is located in Greenwich Village, a few blocks south of Washington Square.  The restaurant dates back to the 1930s but it recently underwent a facelift when it was taken over by restauranteur Keith McNally.  It maintains a good deal of old school charm –  dim lighting, red leather booths, and a classic cocktail bar – and has a menu full of updated takes on traditional dishes.  Minetta Tavern is perhaps most famous for their signature burger (and for good reason), but there’s plenty more to this restaurant….

Sfoglia – Friday Dinner Series

sfoglia_nyc

This week on Friday Dinner Series we’re featuring our favorite Italian restaurant in New York City, Sfoglia!  Located in the upper Upper East Side (92nd and Lexington), Sfoglia is a neighborhood spot that feels like a hip, downtown restaurant.   The food is universally excellent, especially their homemade pasta.  The restaurant has a cool, rustic decor and the staff is very personable.  It’s definitely a great date spot and worth the trek uptown….
