June 6, 2013 by Cate 26 Comments

Sugar cookie dough is loaded with sprinkles – these Funfetti Sugar Cookies are so fun and they taste delicious. They literally melt in your mouth!

I’m headed to San Francisco for a long weekend, so today is my Friday!   I figured why not celebrate with some sprinkles.  What’s more fun and festive than sprinkles?  I really can’t think of anything. These funfetti sugar cookies are so fun and colorful!  They were really easy to make, and the results were amazing!  They are so soft – underbaking them is the key to keeping them very fluffy and tender.  And the flavor is great – sweet and buttery, without being greasy.  These are a perfect simple sugar cookie, and the colorful sprinkles in the dough (with some extra added on top!) make the cookie look as good as it tastes.  I will definitely be making these funfetti sugar cookies again around Christmas, with red and green sprinkles!  Hope you all have a great weekend!…

May 28, 2013 by Cate 22 Comments

These cookies really live up to their name – they are perfection! Perfect Chocolate Chip cookies, made with browned butter, are one of the best I have ever made!

Today is TheBetterHalf’s birthday! His golden birthday to be exact, turning 28 on May 28! I had good intentions to bake him a cake yesterday, but the weather in NYC was absolutely perfect so we spent the day at Central Park with friends. When it is 70 and sunny, being outside trumps baking! (one of the very few things that trump baking) TheBetterHalf loves chocolate peanut butter anything, but I think his second favorite dessert is classic chocolate chip cookies. So instead of a cake, I have “Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies” in honor of his birthday.  …

Blueberry and Jam Buttermilk Coffee Cake

May 6, 2013 by Cate 20 Comments

This weekend, I managed to bake something that TheBetterHalf liked more than I did! Now don’t get me wrong, I loved this coffee cake – as long as butter and sugar are the two main ingredients in a recipe, I am a fan – but TheBetterHalf is a little more discerning. So when he started raving about this cake, I knew it must be good! I had some leftover buttermilk to use (this seems to be a theme in my kitchen, always using up leftover buttermilk like here and here) so I decided to whip up a coffee cake for breakfast on Saturday morning. In just about an hour, I had this delicious cake ready for us to devour! It was so good – very moist, and studded with so many fresh blueberries! The glaze is optional on this cake. I thought the cake was sweet enough without it. TheBetterHalf really liked the addition of the glaze. So if you are in a glaze mood, go for it! And if not, this cake would be delicious on its own. You could top it with a dusting of powdered sugar for a little decoration.  …

Chewy Chocolate Cookies

Chewy chocolate cookies.  The name alone says it all – these cookies are to die for.  They have quickly made my list of top 5 favorite cookie recipes.  That is no small feat, because I am kind of a cookie addict.  They are rich and chocolaty from the cocoa powder and the chopped bittersweet chocolate.  If you are a chocoholic, you will love this recipe!  It is the kind of cookie that just begs for a glass of milk.  The dark corn syrup contributes to the most amazing chewy texture.  I definitely think you should add this cookie to your weekend baking lineup!  Ok, I realize that most normal people probably don’t have a weekend baking lineup. So just add it to your recipe list for the next time you want an amazing chocolaty cookie!…
