Mango Smoothie made with Greek Yogurt

April 21, 2014 by Cate 25 Comments

Frozen banana slices and mango greek yogurt make this mango smoothie so creamy and decadent tasting, even though it is light and healthy! So simple and easy to make.

Did you all have a nice Easter weekend? TheBetterHalf and I were in St. Louis for a quick trip to see my family and we had the most gorgeous weather – it almost felt like summer! Which means that it must be smoothie season! I love making smoothies year round, but once it starts to get warm out, I can’t get enough of them. Smoothies are so easy to make- this mango smoothie only has four ingredients! Plus it tastes delicious and is healthy too.

I love putting mangoes in smoothies. They add a great tropical flavor, a pretty color, and a nice texture.

Apparently there are hundreds of varieties of mangos! Who knew?  I usually buy whatever they have at the market, which is typically the Tommy Atkins variety. However Whole Foods had Ataulfo mangos on sale the other day so I decided to give them a try.  Wow, they are so much better than the kind I usually buy! They are much less fibrous, and have an almost creamy texture. You do have to make sure they are ripe to get the best flavor – the first one I had was quite sour. After a few days on the counter though, they ripened up; the flesh become softer and the flavor become sweeter. Perfect for my mango smoothie.

Here are some good tips about mangoes, including how to cut them – that is always so tricky!

I mentioned before that there are only four ingredients (!) in this smoothie. Mango is obviously one. Another is banana, and I have a trick for a super creamy smoothie – slice up a banana into “coins” and freeze them. Then use the frozen banana slices in your smoothie.  You will honestly think that you put ice cream in your smoothie – it makes it SO creamy!

Mango Greek yogurt is the third ingredient – it reinforces the mango flavor, and adds a richness to the smoothie. And of course it also makes it creamy. So I guess if you don’t want to freeze your banana slices, you really don’t have to for this smoothie. 🙂

The final ingredient is coconut water! I love the subtle coconut flavor that it brings to this tropical smoothie. You could use any kind of juice or milk that you like if you don’t have coconut water or don’t like the flavor.

And that’s all – just blend together and you will quickly be sipping a refreshing, creamy, fruity mango smoothie!

After all the Easter candy and baked goods I ate this weekend, I need some healthy smoothies in my life!

Love, love, love smoothies! This one looks super pretty and refreshing. You know, I’ve never had a mango one though and I’m not sure why because I like mangos. Hehe. Cool link for those mango tips, too!
Sounds like you had a lovely Easter weekend. 🙂

Thanks, Tina! I think you are going to like mangos in your smoothie – it is a nice change from the usual berries ad banana

I love mango! And I especially love them in smoothies. They sell frozen mango at my Costco, and I always keep a bag on hand. Love that you added greek yogurt!

Mango is one of my favorite ingredients to add to smoothies! I agree, it makes them soooo smooth. I never thought of throwing actual mango yogurt into the mix though! This is genius! I also love that there are only 4 ingredients in this recipe! Bonus! Pinned!

This looks so creamy and refreshing – perfect for the warmer weather that’s coming! I still have a few mangoes leftover from last week’s Whole Foods crate, but they are on their last legs and just begging to be frozen so that I can whip up a smoothie with them later on. Yum!

Thanks, Erica! Great idea to freeze fresh mango before it spoils – I need to do that!

My littlest just made up a list of ‘foods that are fun to eat’ and smoothies were at the top of the list! 🙂

As a super busy mom, I want to keep my kiddos happy – and healthy! – and something with only 4 ingredients is simply perfect! I know this recipe will be a huge hit – can’t wait to try it out! 🙂 Thank you Cate! Happy mommy and happy kids!

Quick question – did you try using frozen mango?

I love mangoes – in India, there are at least 20 types of mangoes alone that you can’t get in the US, and they are so much better than anything here!
