These Chocolate Chip Cookies made with Cream Cheese are so soft and chewy! The cream cheese is the secret ingredient – such a fun twist on a classic cookie!
It is National Cookie Day!!! I just HAD to celebrate this food holiday on the blog – after all, cookies are the best of all baked goods in my opinion. And what better cookie to celebrate with than a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie. Chocolate chip cookies are just the best, aren’t they? Simple, delicious, easy, always a crowd pleaser. What’s not to love?
I have already made a few varieties of this American favorite on the blog, like these and these, but today I have a little twist for you – chocolate chip cookies made with cream cheese! I saw the recipe over on Just a Taste and knew that I HAD to try them. I’m always up for a new chocolate chip cookie recipe, especially when a fun twist is involved.
The cream cheese makes these cookies SO soft. If you are a soft cookie lover, this recipe is for you. They are just slightly crispy at the edges, but the center is so soft and gooey. Heavenly! I froze some to try to stop myself from eating all of them, but then discovered that I loved these frozen – because somehow they stay soft even straight from the freezer. The cream cheese must be magic!
It may be national cookie day, but December really should be crowned national cookie month. I have Christmas Cookie fever. I made two kinds on Sunday (in addition to these doughnuts) and had the butter all ready for a third recipe when I stopped myself – I really don’t want to look like Santa by the time December 25th rolls around! But I will definitely have quite a few cookie recipes coming your way this month. If you have any requests or suggestions, leave me a comment and let me know. I love hearing from you!
If you are a chocolate chip cookie lover (and I’m assuming that would be 99% of you!), you have to try this version for a nice twist – they are delicious! Chocolate Chip Cookies made with cream cheese are my new favorite variety!
These Chocolate Chip Cookies made with Cream Cheese are so soft and chewy! The cream cheese is the secret ingredient - such a fun twist on a classic cookie!
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- ¼ cup cream cheese, at room temperature
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a medium bowl.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix together the butter and cream cheese until combined. Add the sugars and cream until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours and up to 3 days.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Scoop the dough into balls about 2 tablespoons each and place a few inches apart on a cookie sheet.
- Bake for 9 - 11 minutes, until the cookies are golden brown. Cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Interesting! I love the idea of these, and if they make super soft cookies I’ll have to try them! I also didn’t know that it was national cookie day, but I agree that the entire month of December should be dedicated to cookie induced sugar-comas :).

Chocolate Chip Cookies are a classic, and still are my all time favorite. Putting cream cheese up in there? Amazing. Super intrigued and going to have to try it! And love the idea of December being Cookie Month. I’m so with you on that.
Have you had the cookie at City Bakery and up at LeVain Bakery? Those are probably my favorite two. Any other spots for favorite cookie you have?
Cate @ Chez CateyLou says
LeVain is definitely my favorite!!! I have a copycat recipe on my list of things to bake, but I worry that I can’t compare with the original!

why my cookies turned out fat not flat like yours..
Cate says
Hi Jana – Sorry, I’m not sure why your cookies turned out fat! Maybe you used too much flour?
Steve says
Simple, yet a delicious recipe! 🙂 Great that you had made it with cream cheese.
