Aero Whiskey Sour {& a Giveaway!}

This Aero Whiskey Sour elevates a classic whiskey sour by adding egg white, which gives the cocktail a silky texture and a great foamy top, and finishing with a touch of cinnamon.

Despite having a reputation as a bit of an old-fashioned drink (not to be confused with an Old Fashioned drink), I’ve always had a soft spot for whiskey sours. During my summer breaks during college and law school (aka my formative drinking years), my friends and I spent many nights at the Jersey Shore (no, not that Jersey Shore, ugh, this one) kicking back and enjoying some whiskey sours before partaking in our usual shenanigans. One of my friends had an ‘old family recipe’ for whiskey sours, and though it wasn’t much more than combining bottom-shelf whiskey with juice concentrate (in a Gatorade cooler no less), it always hit the spot.

Fast forward 5-10 years, and while I no longer drink from Gatorade coolers (usually…), I still enjoy drinking whiskey sours, particularly this Aero Whisky Sour.

The recipe comes from a great book, The North American Whiskey Guide from Behind the Bar: Real Bartenders’ Reviews of More Than 250 Whiskeys by Chad Berkey and Jeremy LeBlanc. The book is a must for any whiskey lover – it has reviews of 250 different whiskeys, plus 30 different cokctail recipes.  My favorite recipe from the book is the Aero Whiskey Sour.

The bold and spicy flavor of bourbon mixed with the sweetness of fresh squeezed lemon juice and simple syrup is an unbeatable combination, but the added viscosity from an egg white is what really takes this whiskey sour up a level.  The shaken egg white gives the cocktail a silky texture and results in a nice layer of foam on the top of the drink.  The finishing touch is a dash of bitters and a hint of cinnamon, which both complement the bourbon perfectly.

While I know some drinkers don’t love the idea of adding egg whites to a cocktail, it truly elevates the drink. Even though this is a bourbon based drink, the end result is actually very refreshing.

Now if I could just find a few days to sneak back down the shore with my buddies…

      Hi Beth.

      No longer practicing law. I worked as a lawyer for a few years out of law school but have since moved into finance (and blogging….but mostly finance!).

    This sounds too die for! I just started drinking bourbon…as in with blood orange and honey. Gotta fruity it up or i can’t do it. But this with the fluffy egg white, I would probably love!
