It is Thanksgiving Week, Day 4! Time for some potatoes, because what is Thanksgiving without at least two types of potatoes. I love traditional mashed potatoes (smothered in gravy of course) but since that recipe is fairly basic, I decided to make sweet potatoes. There are so many ways to prepare sweet potatoes, but I went for a candied sweet potato casserole topped with glazed pecans! You could top this one with marshmallows instead if you are so inclined, but TheBetterHalf is not a marshmallow fan. He actually said “It’s Thanksgiving, not summer camp.” So that’s that. …
White Sandwich Bread
As you might have noticed, I love baking bread. Since I started baking it in January of 2012, I don’t think we’ve bought any bread – I won’t allow it! Homemade bread is just so much better! And we usually have a lot leftover from the loaves I bake, so I just slice it up and pop it in the freezer. You can put a frozen slice in your toaster and you have delicious toast ready in a few minutes! …
Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread
A great recipe for classic Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread. This is a light and fluffy wheat bread that is still sturdy enough for a sandwich!
I love no-knead bread and quick easy bread, but when I have time on a weekend, I really enjoy making good old fashioned bread. The kind that requires kneading, takes up lots of time, and causes a mess. But that’s what weekends are for, right? It had been awhile since I had baked bread, so last weekend I decided to make Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread. I have made this recipe before, so I knew it would be a winner, and that TheBetterHalf would like it, even though it has whole wheat in there (he is a white bread kind of guy). …
Easy Cinnamon Bread
This easy cinnamon bread is made with yeast, but it requires absolutely no kneading. Just mix up the dough, let it rise for an hour, and bake. So easy!
When I made this cinnamon bread for breakfast last Saturday morning, TheBetterHalf said, “Can you make this every weekend?” That’s how I know I have a good recipe! And as a bonus, it could not be easier to make. It is a hybrid between a yeast bread and a baking powder bread, but there is absolutely no kneading required! Just mix up the ingredients, let it sit for an hour, and then bake it! It is so simple, and so delicious. We are both cinnamon lovers, and this bread is full of warm, sweet cinnamon flavor! It reminds me of coffee cake. The aroma when it is baking is unreal! The cinnamon bread is great plain, and even better toasted. Don’t let the top part of the bread fall in your toaster though – I may or may not have started a mini fire in our toaster oven…
I used cinnamon chips from King Arthur Flour, and have also used Hershey’s cinnamon chips. They can be tricky to find, so I like to order them online. I have made this recipe several times, and will definitely be making it again! …
Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies really live up to their name – they are perfection! Perfect Chocolate Chip cookies, made with browned butter, are one of the best I have ever made!
Today is TheBetterHalf’s birthday! His golden birthday to be exact, turning 28 on May 28! I had good intentions to bake him a cake yesterday, but the weather in NYC was absolutely perfect so we spent the day at Central Park with friends. When it is 70 and sunny, being outside trumps baking! (one of the very few things that trump baking) TheBetterHalf loves chocolate peanut butter anything, but I think his second favorite dessert is classic chocolate chip cookies. So instead of a cake, I have “Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies” in honor of his birthday. …
