Best of 2013 - Chez CateyLou

Happy New Year everybody! 2013 was a great year for TheBetterHalf and me. In addition to taking some amazing trips, we launched ChezCateyLou.com! It has been so much fun to master new recipes, learn about photography, and get to know the blogging world – and to share it all with you, my amazing readers! Blogging sure is a lot of work, but we have loved every second of it. The past few weeks have been exciting for us – we are now self-hosted and I’m looking forward to making some improvements to the blog in the upcoming weeks. I predict good things in 2014 🙂

Before we get settled into 2014, I want to take a look back at my top 5 favorite recipes of 2013. I can’t even tell you how hard it was to pick only five. It is like picking your favorite child!   I’m still debating if I picked the right ones (let me know yours in the comments!), but here goes:…

It is December 30 – 2 more days until the new year’s resolutions start.  So I have one more cookie recipe for you, just in case you haven’t had enough this month!  These cookies come to you as part of the Mystery Dish group.  I guest posted in October, and was thrilled to be asked to join them full time!  Sherri at The Well Floured Kitchen came up with a great list of ingredients for us this month.

Dark Chocolate
Greek Yogurt
Berries
Coconut Oil
Walnuts
Fish (any white flaky such as cod)
Baby Spinach
Pecorino Romano Cheese

We had to use at least two – I picked Dark Chocolate, Coconut Oil, and Walnuts and made these delicious cookies….

It is National Cookie Day!!!  I just HAD to celebrate this food holiday on the blog – after all, cookies are the best of all baked goods in my opinion. And what better cookie to celebrate with than a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie.  Chocolate chip cookies are just the best, aren’t they? Simple, delicious, easy, always a crowd pleaser. What’s not to love?

I have already made a few varieties of this American favorite on the blog, like these and these, but today I have a little twist for you –  chocolate chip cookies made with cream cheese! I saw the recipe over on Just a Taste and knew that I HAD to try them. I’m always up for a new chocolate chip cookie recipe, especially when a fun twist is involved. …

Chocolate Chip Cookies – made using cornstarch

July 29, 2013 by Cate 8 Comments

This is not the first chocolate chip cookie recipe that I have posted on ChezCateyLou, and it certainly won’t be the last. There are just so many recipes out there for this classic cookie, and I love trying different versions! It also helps that TheBetterHalf loves chocolate chip cookies – have to keep him happy! I have made the Jacques Torres recipe and a recipe using browned butter, and I really love them both. But when I saw this recipe on Sally’s Baking Addiction, I wanted to try them because one of the ingredients intrigued me – cornstarch!  I have never used cornstarch in my baking.  The cornstarch makes the cookies light and fluffy, always a good thing in my book!    And wow, these cookies were so soft and fluffy!  The recipe uses dark brown sugar, which I love for chocolate chip cookies because it gives the cookie a caramel-y flavor that works so well with the chocolate chips.   I can’t wait to try cornstarch in other cookies recipes! …
