Happy 2nd Birthday to Chez CateyLou! My little blog is two years old today! And to celebrate, I made a birthday cake!  Because birthdays need cake.  And sprinkles.  Lots of sprinkles!

Our absolute favorite dessert flavor is chocolate peanut butter. TheBetterHalf and I are crazy for anything with that combo. Muffins. Brownies. Cookies. Cake. I even made peanut butter chocolate chips pancakes for breakfast this weekend (must share that recipe with you ASAP!) So when I was deciding what kind of cake to bake for the big 2nd birthday, I knew that chocolate and peanut butter had to be involved – Yellow Birthday Cake with Peanut Butter Chocolate Frosting, and a little extra peanut butter filling in the center.  This is one amazing cake!!

Septime – Paris

On our most recent trip to Paris, Cate and I were lucky enough to snag reservations at four of the hottest restaurants in town: Chateaubriand, Septime, Frenchie, and 6 Paul Bert.  All four were unique experiences and each is worthy of a visit while in Paris.  But if we had to pick a favorite, it would be Septime.  This was actually our second dinner at Septime – Cate and I went for the first time on our last trip to Paris and loved it so much we had to go back.  And it was just as amazing as we remembered.

There are only 5 days until Valentine‘s Day! Do you have fun plans? I’ve actually never really been that into Valentine’s Day – but I do like any excuse I can get to bake delicious and festive treats. There is just something about heart shaped sprinkles that makes any baked good taste better! Like Caramel Stuffed Red Velvet Cookies. Sure these fudgy chocolatey cookies stuffed with ooey gooey caramel and melty chocolate chips would taste amazing on their own – but the Valentine’s sprinkles just make them so darn cute!!  So I guess I liked – I am into Valentine’s Day.  🙂

Do you ever get in little food routines? I have weeks where I end up eating the same thing pretty much every day. And last week, it was this Mushroom Ginger Congee for dinner every night! Sidenote – TheBetterHalf was working late that week…he would not approve of only soup for dinner.  Although let’s be serious, I didn’t only have soup…I followed the congee with dessert of course!  It is all about balance, right?

This soup  is so simple to make and is so warm and comforting. Plus, it doesn’t get much lighter – only 140 calories and 1.5 g of fat per serving, and it is very filling!  This is a great recipe to make when you aren’t feeling well, because the ginger and mushroom will both boost your immune system. Healthy comfort food that tastes amazing and helps you feel better – no wonder I ate this for dinner every night!…

I don’t know about you, but I can barely remember my new year’s resolutions. Ok correction – I remember them, I just haven’t exactly been sticking to them. I think my good intentions lasted all of 7 days. I just can’t say no to these and these. So to try to get back on track, I tricked myself into thinking I was eating carrot cake with these Skinny Carrot Cake Muffins! They taste delicious and are so moist, and they are packed with healthy ingredients – carrots, Sunsweet diced plums, oats, and Greek yogurt!
