Top 5 Recipes of 2013

Best of 2013 - Chez CateyLou

Happy New Year everybody! 2013 was a great year for TheBetterHalf and me. In addition to taking some amazing trips, we launched ChezCateyLou.com! It has been so much fun to master new recipes, learn about photography, and get to know the blogging world – and to share it all with you, my amazing readers! Blogging sure is a lot of work, but we have loved every second of it. The past few weeks have been exciting for us – we are now self-hosted and I’m looking forward to making some improvements to the blog in the upcoming weeks. I predict good things in 2014 :)

Before we get settled into 2014, I want to take a look back at my top 5 favorite recipes of 2013. I can’t even tell you how hard it was to pick only five. It is like picking your favorite child!   I’m still debating if I picked the right ones (let me know yours in the comments!), but here goes:…

Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Muffins

Chocolate Chip Cinnamon muffins are so light and fluffy thanks to buttermilk. The flavor combo of the warm cinnamon with the chocolate chips is incredible!

Happy Sunday! It is bright and sunny here in NYC, a nice change from yesterday when it snowed literally the entire day. But I didn’t mind – it gave me an excuse to bake the day away, starting with these chocolate chip cinnamon muffins. Not that I need an excuse to bake all day :) Plus when you’re all warm and cozy inside, the snow is so pretty. It made the city look so calm and peaceful. It wasn’t quite as pretty and peaceful when I left to go out to dinner. The streets were not plowed, so let’s just say our cab did not have the easiest time driving! Ah the joys of city living….

Dad’s Apple Crumb Pie

This Apple Crumb Pie is my absolute favorite apple pie recipe – straight from my Dad’s recipe collection! A true classic pie, topped with tons of crumbs!

Apple Crumb Pie | chezcateylou.com

Today is the final day of our Thanksgiving Week! Are you full yet? I hope not, because it is time for dessert! Somehow no matter how much I eat on Thanksgiving, there is always room for dessert. And of course it is Thanksgiving, so dessert has got to be pie. Unless you are TheBetterHalf – he likes chocolate chip cookies for Thanksgiving dessert, which I think is just weird. But when he has Thanksgiving with my family in Thanksgiving, I humor him and make cookies and pie.

In our family, the pie of choice is apple pie – but not just any old apple pie – an apple crumb pie! And it tastes even better, because it is made by my dad. Now I think this recipe is technically my mom’s, but my dad has been making it every Thanksgiving since I can remember, so I think it is safe to call it Dad’s apple crumb pie….

Sherry Charred Brussels Sprouts

These Sherry Charred Brussels Sprouts are my new favorite way to cook this veggie! The brussels sprouts are so easy to make, and are so flavorful!

It is Thanksgiving Week day 3!  So far we’ve had Haricots Verts and Stuffing (TheBetterHalf’s favorite) and now it is time for my favorite – Brussels Sprouts! I know, it is hard to believe that I choose brussels over pie, but it is true.  I just love brussels sprouts!  There is something about their flavor -when they get all browned and crispy that I just can’t resist.

We eat brussels sprouts all the time, especially in the winter.  I have no self control around them – I actually have to make only two (large) servings or else I just won’t stop eating them.  I usually roast them in a 400 degree oven tossed in some olive oil, salt, and pepper. But for our Thanksgiving Week, I decided to try a new recipe, one for the best brussels sprouts that I have ever eaten.

Pumpkin, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice are mixed into a traditional white yeast bread. This Pumpkin Yeast Bread is so light and fluffy – perfect for toast or sandwiches!
Pumpkin Yeast Bread | chezcateylou.com #pumpkin #recipe

It is no secret that I’m putting pumpkin in everything these days.  I talked about it earlier this week when I made pumpkin coffee cake.  It is also no secret that I love to bake bread!  Just look at all of these recipes. It is really one of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday. There is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread in your house.  TheBetterHalf is pretty spoiled – I can’t remember the last time we had store bought bread!…
