The Best Roasted Broccoli

May 21, 2014 by Cate 22 Comments

The best broccoli you will ever eat, and it is simple to make! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely addictive – healthy has never tasted so delicious!

The Best Roasted Broccoli | chezcateylou.com

Ok I know what you’re thinking right now – Broccoli? But what about the donuts and cookies and chocolate peanut butter anything? Don’t worry, they are coming soon (I may or may not have made these last night…). But I just HAD to tell you about this broccoli. Why?

Because it is the absolute best broccoli I have ever had. In fact, it is the best veggie I have ever had – at a restaurant or in my own kitchen. I’m not exaggerating. This stuff is amazing. It even converted TheBetterHalf into a broccoli lover, and he had previously not been a fan of the healthy green vegetable. Plus it is so simple to make – there are only 5 ingredients, and that is counting salt and pepper!…

Chewy Sugar Cookies

December 19, 2013 by Cate 31 Comments

These Chewy Sugar Cookies have the most amazing soft yet chewy texture. A little cream cheese in the dough gives them the most incredible flavor.

Can you believe that Christmas is only 6 days away?  I have a lot of baking to do this weekend, and I’m quite excited about it.  I love Christmas baking.  Bring on the cookies!  There are so many amazing recipes that I want to try, it is really hard to narrow it down to just a few.  But each year I know that sugar cookies will be on the baking list in one form or another, and this year Chewy Sugar Cookies were at the top of the list….

French Butter Cookies (Sables)

December 6, 2013 by Cate 37 Comments

These French Butter Cookies, also called a Sable, have a slightly crunchy and crumbly texture, and a rich buttery flavor. They are an easy yet elegant Christmas cookie!

French Butter Cookies, also called a Sable | ChezCateyLou.com

Ever since we got back from Paris, I can’t stop dreaming about our amazing trip and all things French. So I just had to bake up a French cookie to pretend I was back in France. Sables are delicate butter cookies that are slightly crunchy and slightly crumbly in texture. Sable means sand in french, and the texture is kind of sandy – hence the name! They are simple in flavor but absolutely delicious. Plus you can decorate them with colored sugars, making them the perfect little treat around Christmas! We encountered cookies like this or some variation of a sable all over the bakeries of Paris. They are served when you order afternoon tea or coffee, and we even had some served to us with a cocktail after dinner one night! That is my kind of after dinner drink!…

Dad’s Apple Crumb Pie

November 22, 2013 by Cate 16 Comments

This Apple Crumb Pie is my absolute favorite apple pie recipe – straight from my Dad’s recipe collection! A true classic pie, topped with tons of crumbs!

Apple Crumb Pie | chezcateylou.com

Today is the final day of our Thanksgiving Week! Are you full yet? I hope not, because it is time for dessert! Somehow no matter how much I eat on Thanksgiving, there is always room for dessert. And of course it is Thanksgiving, so dessert has got to be pie. Unless you are TheBetterHalf – he likes chocolate chip cookies for Thanksgiving dessert, which I think is just weird. But when he has Thanksgiving with my family in Thanksgiving, I humor him and make cookies and pie.

In our family, the pie of choice is apple pie – but not just any old apple pie – an apple crumb pie! And it tastes even better, because it is made by my dad. Now I think this recipe is technically my mom’s, but my dad has been making it every Thanksgiving since I can remember, so I think it is safe to call it Dad’s apple crumb pie….

Blueberry Muffins

April 19, 2013 by Cate 12 Comments

I love going to the market and seeing what produce is fresh. And now that spring is here, all the fruits and veggies are starting to look and taste so much better! This past week the blueberries looked amazing, so I decided to make blueberry muffins for breakfast. Muffins are such an easy breakfast to make – one hour and you have a delicious freshly baked meal!  There are so many great muffin recipes out there, I always have a hard time deciding which one to make.

I went with this King Arthur Flour recipe because the reviews were so amazing, and because I happened to have some White Whole Wheat flour in my pantry. I always like to sneak in some whole wheat when I can. I try to trick TheBetterHalf, but he can usually tell when wheat is involved – much too healthy for him! I think the white whole wheat flour works very well in this muffin though. The muffins were light and fluffy, with just a bit of wheat flavor. The almond extract really adds something special, although be careful not to put in more than 1/4 tsp – a little of that goes a long way! The original directions say that the cinnamon sugar on top is optional, but really, who wouldn’t want cinnamon sugar on top of their muffin?! So in my recipe, it is not optional :).
