Hello from 35,000 feet in the air! TheBetterHalf and I are on our way to Seattle for memorial day weekend. (Ok now that I have internet to post this, we are already in Seattle. But I wrote this on the plane :) ) We are so excited for our little getaway – I desperately need a vacation. I’ve heard great things about this city, and I know it has a great food scene! Our list of places to eat is long but there is always room for more– if you have any suggestions, let me know!  And make sure to follow me on Instagram for picture updates from our trip.

With memorial day weekend comes summer and with summer comes zucchini! I love baking with zucchini in the summertime. You don’t taste it at all, but it makes baked goods really moist. Plus, who couldn’t use a little extra nutrition in their muffins? And to top it all off, these chocolate zucchini muffins are 100% whole wheat, are made with Greek yogurt, and use coconut oil!  Such a healthy and delicious way to start your day.

Guinness Stout Chocolate Donuts #KissMeImIrish

Guinness Stout beer in the batter and the icing really makes the chocolate flavor shine in these baked donuts. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day breakfast!
Guinness Stout Chocolate Donuts | chezcateylou.com Who wants Guinness for breakfast?! Ok I know, it sounds kind of weird. And I felt strange cracking open a beer at 8am. But let me tell you – it tastes amazing in these donuts! You can’t really taste beer, it just brings out the chocolate flavor. And, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s day than with Guinness and sprinkles.

When my friend Connie over at URBAN BAKES invited me to her #KissMeImIrish St. Patrick’s Day blog party, I was so in! 12 of us made fun St. Patrick’s Day treats for you – and they all include alcohol! That was actually a total coincidence – great minds think alike.  Links to all the delicious recipes are at the bottom of the post, so make sure to check them out.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Muffins | chezcateylou.com

Does anyone notice anything different today? Something new? Something fresh and clean? Yep, that’s right, Chez CateyLou got a makeover!! What do you think?

I am loving my new site design! A big thanks to the wonderful Katie at Twin Stripe for designing my logo. Didn’t she do an amazing job? Also a big thanks to TheBetterHalf for dealing with all the technical headaches that came along with this lovely new site. I’ll tell you what, all this blogging stuff is a lot harder than we thought it would be! But it is totally worth it.

So in honor of the first post on my newly designed site,  I made peanut butter chocolate chip muffins.  I obviously had to include peanut butter, my one true love (sorry TheBetterHalf, but that’s payback for when you wouldn’t say you loved me more than the Eagles).

Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting | chezcateylou.com

Happy Birthday to Chez CateyLou! Our little blog is one year old today. I actually can’t believe it has been an entire year!! Time really flies. I have learned so much this past year – about photography, cooking, food styling, blogging, social media – the list goes on and on! A year ago I wasn’t even on Pinterest – now, it is our number one source of traffic to the blog. I didn’t even know what DSLR meant (ok I can’t lie – I just had to google what DSLR actually stands for) and now my fancy camera is one of my favorite possessions. I even named it, or her to be exact. Her name is Cécile – my French camera for my French blog name – and she has become a member of the family (and now you all know how weird I really am)!

But thank you for sticking with me and reading all of my posts. You, my dear readers, are the reason that this little blog is around and that I continue to work so hard at it each and every day. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And now it is time for cake. With peanut butter buttercream frosting.  Oh yes.

Chocolate Donuts with Strawberry Cream Cheese Icing

Baked chocolate donuts are topped with fresh strawberry cream cheese icing. Pretty and delicious, these will be a new breakfast favorite!

Chocolate Donuts with Strawberry Cream Cheese Icing | chezcateylou.com

It is time for another Mystery Dish post! This month, Allie from Baking a Moment  picked a fun list of celebratory ingredients for us. They were Champagne, Strawberries, Oranges, Beets, Filet Mignon, Lobster, Cream, Chocolate, Rosewater, and Rice.  Since champagne, lobster, and filet mignon aren’t in my usual cooking repertoire, I’m not really sure what rosewater is, and I am not a fan of beets, I decided to go with what I know and love – chocolate and strawberries! It doesn’t get much better than that.  Especially when combined in a baked donut – chocolate donuts with strawberry cream cheese icing to be exact!
