The Best Recipes of 2014

Another year has come to an end – can you believe it? 2014 was a great year for Chez CateyLou. I have learned so much this year, met amazing people (both virtually and in person!), taken some awesome trips, and baked a lot of cookies! I don’t think I really realized how much was involved with blogging until this year…wow, it is time consuming!! But I love it. It has really changed my life, in a very positive way.

I am so thankful for all of you, my readers – thank you for reading my posts and commenting and interacting on social media – it means so much that people care about this little blog of mine!

And now to the Best Recipes of 2014. Last year I only did a top 5, but it was WAY too hard to only choose 5. This year I made 114 recipes (!!) – how can you narrow that down to only 5?! So I’m going to start with your top 5 favorite and then finish with my top 5 best recipes of 2014!

Aero Whiskey Sour {& a Giveaway!}

This Aero Whiskey Sour elevates a classic whiskey sour by adding egg white, which gives the cocktail a silky texture and a great foamy top, and finishing with a touch of cinnamon.

Despite having a reputation as a bit of an old-fashioned drink (not to be confused with an Old Fashioned drink), I’ve always had a soft spot for whiskey sours. During my summer breaks during college and law school (aka my formative drinking years), my friends and I spent many nights at the Jersey Shore (no, not that Jersey Shore, ugh, this one) kicking back and enjoying some whiskey sours before partaking in our usual shenanigans. One of my friends had an ‘old family recipe’ for whiskey sours, and though it wasn’t much more than combining bottom-shelf whiskey with juice concentrate (in a Gatorade cooler no less), it always hit the spot.

Fast forward 5-10 years, and while I no longer drink from Gatorade coolers (usually…), I still enjoy drinking whiskey sours, particularly this Aero Whisky Sour.

Chocolate Hazelnut Linzer cookies, filled with nutella or raspberry jam, will be the prettiest and tastiest cookies on any Christmas table!

Merry Christmas everyone! Was Santa good to you? TheBetterHalf and I are in St. Louis celebrating Christmas with my family. It is a gorgeous day here – we just got back from a nice long walk with my family’s dog. Can you spy the arch in this picture?

I know all of the presents are open and the cookie baking is finished, but I just had to share one last recipe with you – Chocolate Hazelnut Linzer Cookies. Linzer cookies are so pretty and festive – they are such a perfect Christmas cookie!

I really meant to share these sooner, but this time of year gets so crazy. Hey, at least I have them up before Christmas! Burnt Sugar Almonds

Burnt Sugar Almonds are the perfect blend of sweet and salty. They are so delicious – I can’t stop eating them! Plus, they will make your house smell amazing!

There are 7 more shopping days until Christmas! Do you have everyone crossed off your list yet? If not (and even if you do!) I have a wonderful idea for a holiday gift – a gorgeous new cookbook! This book, Almonds: Recipes, History, Culture is full of gorgeous photos and tons of delicious recipes. It would be the perfect addition to any cook’s collection, and also makes a great coffee table book.

I love the idea of making something from a cookbook and then giving it as a gift with the book. I made Burnt Sugar Almonds from the Almonds book and wrapped them up in a cellophane bag tied with a pretty little ribbon. It makes such a cute and thoughtful gift, not to mention a delicious one!
