Brioche Bread

February 5, 2014 by Cate 25 Comments

Brioche Bread | chezcateylou.com

Ok everyone – what is going on with the weather this winter?! I know it is all people can talk about lately, but seriously – will it ever stop snowing? Definitely the worst winter we’ve had in my 6 years in NYC! I walk to work every morning (takes about 25 minutes in case you are curious) and I think I’ve said about 10 times this winter, “Ok that was by far my worst walk yet.” It just keeps getting worse though!  But this morning took the cake (and not the good kind of cake) – freezing rain the entire walk – which was falling on top of snow piles. The result: icy sidewalks and HUGE puddles at each intersection. Fun. But I made it without falling, phew!

And now I can talk about brioche bread, which is definitely cheering me up immediately. There is a stick of butter in each loaf, what’s not to love?!…

Valentine’s Funfetti Pancakes with Vanilla Greek Yogurt Sauce

February 3, 2014 by Cate 58 Comments

Light and fluffy pancakes are fun and festive thanks to sprinkles in the batter. Greek yogurt is used in both the pancakes and the vanilla sauce, giving these funfetti pancakes tons of filling protein. Such a delicious and celebratory breakfast!

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday in NYC it was in the 50s and sunny and today it is 30 and snowing! We seriously got so lucky with the Superbowl weather.

Is everyone tired today from all the festivities last night? I know I am, and this snow is not helping things! So I need something to cheer me up today, and these pancakes are just the thing. If these don’t bring a smile to your face, I don’t know what will! Aren’t they just the cutest?  And so perfect for Valentine‘s Day!…

Chocolate Donuts with Strawberry Cream Cheese Icing

Baked chocolate donuts are topped with fresh strawberry cream cheese icing. Pretty and delicious, these will be a new breakfast favorite!

Chocolate Donuts with Strawberry Cream Cheese Icing | chezcateylou.com

It is time for another Mystery Dish post! This month, Allie from Baking a Moment  picked a fun list of celebratory ingredients for us. They were Champagne, Strawberries, Oranges, Beets, Filet Mignon, Lobster, Cream, Chocolate, Rosewater, and Rice.  Since champagne, lobster, and filet mignon aren’t in my usual cooking repertoire, I’m not really sure what rosewater is, and I am not a fan of beets, I decided to go with what I know and love – chocolate and strawberries! It doesn’t get much better than that.  Especially when combined in a baked donut – chocolate donuts with strawberry cream cheese icing to be exact!

These blueberry muffins are so light thanks to Greek yogurt. Frozen blueberries work so well in muffins, and make these easy to whip up any time of year!

Good morning!  Anyone in the mood for a muffin this morning?  I don’t know about you, but I am in the mood for a muffin just about every morning.  And while I would like chocolate chip or cookie butter to be a part of breakfast every day, my jeans disagree.  So instead, let’s have blueberry muffins!  I used frozen blueberries to make these because the fresh ones are looking pretty weak these days.  But frozen blueberries are good year round, and they actually work better than fresh ones in some recipes.   I like to use these frozen wild blueberries  when I make muffins because they are smaller, but full of great flavor….
