Chocolate Donuts with Peanut Butter Frosting

Peanut butter frosting is spread all over a baked chocolate donut, resulting in the most amazing breakfast ever! Sweet & salty and totally delicious!

Ohh it is a good morning at Chez CateyLou. A great morning in fact. And that is because I have the best donuts I have made thus far to share with you. That’s right, the best. And I have made a lot of donuts since I bought my little pan back in the fall. The name says it all – chocolate donuts with peanut butter frosting.

If you are a chocolate peanut butter lover, then you are going to agree that these donuts are insanely delicious! And also that they really are dessert and not breakfast. But anything goes on Saturday mornings in our house.

Guinness Stout beer in the batter and the icing really makes the chocolate flavor shine in these baked donuts. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day breakfast!
Who wants Guinness for breakfast?! Ok I know, it sounds kind of weird. And I felt strange cracking open a beer at 8am. But let me tell you – it tastes amazing in these donuts! You can’t really taste beer, it just brings out the chocolate flavor. And, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s day than with Guinness and sprinkles.

When my friend Connie over at URBAN BAKES invited me to her #KissMeImIrish St. Patrick’s Day blog party, I was so in! 12 of us made fun St. Patrick’s Day treats for you – and they all include alcohol! Baked chocolate donuts are topped with fresh strawberry cream cheese icing. Pretty and delicious, these will be a new breakfast favorite!

It is time for another Mystery Dish post! This month, Allie from Baking a Moment picked a fun list of celebratory ingredients for us. They were Champagne, Strawberries, Oranges, Beets, Filet Mignon, Lobster, Cream, Chocolate, Rosewater, and Rice. Since champagne, lobster, and filet mignon aren’t in my usual cooking repertoire, I’m not really sure what rosewater is, and I am not a fan of beets, I decided to go with what I know and love – chocolate and strawberries! It doesn’t get much better than that. Especially when combined in a baked donut – chocolate donuts with strawberry cream cheese icing to be exact!

Happy New Year everybody! 2013 was a great year for TheBetterHalf and me. In addition to taking some amazing trips, we launched ChezCateyLou.com! It has been so much fun to master new recipes, learn about photography, and get to know the blogging world – and to share it all with you, my amazing readers! Blogging sure is a lot of work, but we have loved every second of it. The past few weeks have been exciting for us – we are now self-hosted and I’m looking forward to making some improvements to the blog in the upcoming weeks. I predict good things in 2014 🙂

According to this handy little website, it is Donut / Doughnut Appreciation Day! I know there is a National Donut Day in June, but I fully support having two days a year when we can celebrate the mighty Donut. If you follow my blog regularly, you probably think that I celebrate donuts on a weekly basis. I have been obsessed with making them ever since I bought this amazing donut pan!
